FLUX.2 [dev] Turbo

Released Jan 2026

FLUX.2 [dev] Turbo is an optimized image generation model developed by Fal in collaboration with Black Forest Labs. It is a distilled version of the FLUX.2 [dev] model, utilizing DMD2 (Distribution Matching Distillation 2) technology to achieve high-quality results in significantly fewer inference steps. By reducing the required sampling steps from approximately 50 to just 8 steps, the model offers a 6–8x increase in generation speed while maintaining professional-grade visual fidelity and prompt adherence.

Technical Architecture and Innovation

The architecture is centered on a 32-billion parameter rectified-flow transformer. It leverages the Mistral-3 24B vision-language model as a text encoder, which enhances the model's ability to interpret complex prompts, spatial relationships, and physical properties. This foundation allows the model to produce images that are compositionally coherent and physically plausible, with notable improvements in typography and fine detail rendering compared to previous generations. Unlike traditional diffusion models, the rectified flow approach learns deterministic transport paths from noise to data, leading to more predictable outputs.

Key capabilities include native multi-reference support, enabling the model to use up to 10 input images for style, character, or object referencing without requiring specific fine-tuning. It supports high-resolution generation up to 4 megapixels and is designed for production-ready workflows that demand low latency. For optimal results, a guidance scale of 2.5 is recommended alongside the 8-step inference pipeline.
