OLMo 3 7B Instruct is a 7-billion parameter language model developed by the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2). It is a core component of the OLMo 3 family, a suite of open-source models designed to advance the science of language modeling through radical transparency. Unlike many contemporary models, OLMo 3 provides open access to its weights, training data (Dolma 3), code, and intermediate training checkpoints.
Built on a standard decoder-only transformer architecture, the model features a significantly expanded context window of approximately 65,000 tokens. The "Instruct" variant is specifically fine-tuned for conversational performance, multi-turn dialogue, and instruction-following. It was developed using a multi-stage post-training pipeline involving Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT) and Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) on the Dolci-Instruct datasets.
In addition to general-purpose chat capabilities, OLMo 3 7B Instruct is optimized for tool use and logical inference. The model is released under the Apache 2.0 license, facilitating both academic research and commercial applications. By documenting the entire "model flow" from data to final weights, Ai2 aims to provide a fully reproducible baseline for the global AI research community.
