Claude 3.5 Haiku is the entry-level, high-speed model in Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 family. It is optimized for low-latency tasks and cost-efficient scaling, providing significant performance gains over its predecessor, Claude 3 Haiku. At the time of its debut, the model demonstrated the ability to match or exceed the performance of the previous generation's flagship, Claude 3 Opus, across several intelligence benchmarks, particularly in coding and instruction following.

The model supports a context window of 200,000 tokens and is designed for applications requiring rapid processing of large datasets, such as real-time customer support, large-scale content moderation, and data extraction. While it launched as a text-only model, vision support was integrated in early 2025, enabling the processing of image-based inputs and documents alongside text.

Claude 3.5 Haiku is frequently utilized as a specialized sub-agent for discrete tasks within larger agentic workflows. Its architectural improvements focus on more accurate tool use and improved nuanced reasoning, positioning it as a tool for autonomous task execution in environments where response time is critical.
