GLM-5.3 is a large-scale language model developed by Z AI (Zhipu AI), released as a flagship update focused on complex software engineering, long-horizon agentic tasks, and cybersecurity. Unlike typical iterative updates that involve new pre-training, GLM-5.3 utilizes the 744B-parameter Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) base from its predecessor, GLM-5.2. Its performance gains are derived entirely from extensive post-training and reinforcement learning using the "IndexShare" stack for long-context processing and "SAO" for long-horizon task alignment.

The model is characterized by its "always-on" reasoning capability, supporting three distinct effort tiers: Low, High, and Max. The GLM-5.3 (max) designation refers to the model operating at its deepest reasoning level, where it is optimized for autonomous coding and complex vulnerability research. It supports a 1 million token context window and an industry-leading maximum output length of 128,000 tokens, enabling it to process and generate repository-scale code and multi-step agent trajectories.

In technical evaluations, GLM-5.3 demonstrated significant improvements in coding benchmarks, including a reported 50% relative gain over its predecessor on internal engineering suites. It achieved state-of-the-art results on public benchmarks such as Terminal-Bench 3.0 and Agents' Last Exam. A notable emergent property of this version is its advanced cybersecurity capability; during safety testing, the model successfully identified over 2,400 real-world vulnerabilities across hundreds of open-source projects, showing high proficiency in complex exploitation chains.

For optimal results, users are encouraged to use comprehensive, high-detail prompts, as the model's agentic architecture is designed to handle multi-action workflows within a single user turn. To maintain high performance during extremely long interactions, it is recommended to refresh conversation threads near the 200,000-token mark to prevent context degradation. The model serves as the primary engine for ZCode, a specialized environment for autonomous software development and security auditing.
