Gigapixel Standard 2 (also known as Standard v2) is a proprietary image upscaling model developed by Topaz Labs. Introduced in January 2024 alongside the launch of Gigapixel 7, this model serves as the default, general-purpose enhancement model within the software's toolkit. It is designed to deliver reliable, clean enlargement across a diverse range of image formats, including digital photographs, CGI renders, and print graphics, while maintaining a strict fidelity to the original input.
As a precision enhancement model rather than a generative diffusion model, Standard 2 focuses on refining existing pixel data and structure rather than hallucinating entirely new details. The model addresses common issues present in its predecessor by substantially reducing blurry patches and eliminating tiling artifacts, particularly on modern GPU architectures. This architecture ensures a balanced default upscaling output up to 600% (6x) that preserves natural textures, fine details, and overall image composition.
While Standard 2 is highly versatile, it is optimized for standard to high-quality source images. In workflows, users can fine-tune its performance using sliders for denoising, sharpening, and compression repair. When dealing with heavily degraded, low-resolution files, or text-heavy graphics, alternative specialized models in the suite, such as Low Resolution 2 or Text & Shapes, may be preferred, while Standard 2 remains the recommended default choice for general photography.
